Sciatica -- We Can Help!
Posted on 2011-12-21 14:19:08
Here at Sharratt Chiropractic, we often see patients who are dealing with back pain that is due to sciatica. We provide back pain treatment of all types, ranging from spinal manipulation from our chiropractor, Dr. Jack Sharratt, to high tech spinal decompression treatments. All of our sciatica treatments are holistic and non-invasive. We will show you that getting well does not mean having to take prescription medications or undergoing painful surgeries!
Since sciatica is actually a very common problem in our patients, including those who have back pain in early pregnancy, car accident victims, and personal injury patients, we have had many patients asking us to explain the condition more in depth. Therefore, we are devoting today's blog to the questions our Batavia sciatica patients have asked us!
What Is Sciatica?
Sciatica is essentially damage to the sciatic nerve. This is the largest and most lengthy nerve in the entire human body. The sciatic nerve begins at the base of the spine and runs through the leg to the heel. Pain in the sciatic nerve can be caused by disc compression, by a sudden injury, or by the additional weight that a pregnant woman must bear during gestation. Sciatica can cause pain in the back, in the upper leg, in the lower leg, or even in the foot.
Our holistic back pain treatment methods include a number of ways to combat sciatic nerve pain. Dr. Sharratt generally begins with gentle manual adjustments that can help free a sciatic nerve that is trapped and pinched. Decompression may also be helpful in cases where there is disc damage along with the sciatic nerve damage. Decompression gradually lifts the discs apart to allow the sciatic nerve to escape the area where it is pinched, thereby releasing you from pain.
Our Batavia office staff is truly dedicated to helping you escape back pain, and we are always here to answer any questions you have.

Kinesiology Helpful in Diagnosing Conditions

Batavia Chiropractor Utilizes Kinesiology
While our chiropractic clinic provides treatment for conditions of the spine and skeletal system, we also offer holistic treatments for the muscles of the body. Applied Kinesiology focuses on understanding and treating the muscular structure of the body to discover imbalances or conditions that are causing pain or illness. Kinesiology is one of the most relevant diagnostic techniques currently in use at Sharratt Chiropractic. To understand what this entails, you need to first understand how it works.
What is Kinesiology?
Kinesiology refers to the diagnosis of health conditions using the study of muscles. During this type of testing, our chiropractor Dr. Jack Sharratt examines a patient's gait, posture, and other related
tests. Special attention is paid to three segments of the body: chemical, mental, and structural. Generally speaking, Dr. Sharratt finds muscles that are functioning poorly and then tries to determine why they are doing so. Often, this is a great way to diagnose underlying conditions causing chronic migraine headache pain, back pain, neck pain, fibromyalgia, and more.
Of course, it is nearly impossible to determine the causes of all symptoms alone from muscle testing. That is why we routinely compare the results with a patient's health history, laboratory results, and a physical examination to rule out other disorders. It is this combination of techniques that usually leads to the greatest health response from patients.
At Sharratt Chiropractic, we have been able to diagnose many disorders through this evaluation technique. This then helps us decide on the proper holistic back pain treatment, migraine relief treatment, or other pain relief option. By understanding whether a condition is chemical (i.e. hormonal), mental, or physical (i.e. from bending, sitting, standing, sports, accidents, etc.) we can truly determine the right course of treatment.
Have you recently been diagnosed and treated using Applied Kinesiology? What was your experience like?
