Breast cancer patients have three unique challenges after chemotherapy, radiation, hormone therapy, and surgery.
1) Poor Wound Healing— The toll on a woman's body can be profound after powerful interventions destroy and remove unhealthy cells. After breast cancer surgery, drainage ports and high doses of antibiotics are often used to stop infection. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy not only destroy unhealthy tissue, it also affects healthy tissue and the patient's immune response.
With nutriceuticals, a family of specialized vitamin formulas, herbal compounds, glandular products and enzymes can be prescribed by Dr. Sharratt to up-regulate the breast cancer patient's immune system and hasten tissue healing after surgery.
2) Fear and Fatigue— The cancer experience is a gauntlet, not a journey. Anxiety, depression, insomnia and hopelessness can lead the breast cancer patient to exhaustion and despair.
Nutriceuticals are prescribed to up-regulate the patient's cortisol levels by normalizing the function of the hypothalamus, thyroid and adrenal glands. Dr. Sharratt prescribes massage therapy to take the breast patient out of the "fight or flight" mode and into the parasympathetic "peaceful" state.
3) Physical Pain or Discomfort— After breast tissue and the chest wall are surgically altered, the patient's posture morphs toward rounded shoulders, forward head and "hunch back.” This postural distortion causes neck and upper back pain, and can feel unattractive to the patient.
Gentle chiropractic care, massage therapy, physical therapy and exercise protocols can transform and rehabilitate the painful effects of structural changes.
Dr. Sharratt works with your surgeons and cancer doctors to return you, the breast cancer patient, to the person you want to be.
